MM – Ready Right Now

Your MIni-mission:
Ready Right Now

Why This Game Rocks:

In a real-life self-defense situation, time is everything. You won’t have the luxury of searching for the perfect weapon. The Ready Right Now drill forces you to prepare immediately, using everyday items or quickly accessible tools, giving you the edge to defend yourself when seconds count. This drill will ensure that no matter where you are, you have something ready to defend yourself.

Overview:

This game is all about identifying and preparing a self-defense tool that you can carry with you right now. Whether it’s a kitchen knife, a paring knife from the thrift store, or another weapon-like object, this exercise ensures you’re equipped with something fast, effective, and lethal if necessary. You’ll also learn how to find and carry an improvised weapon legally in your everyday environment, making you better prepared to respond to an attack.

Materials Needed:

  • A kitchen paring knife (or other small, easy-to-carry knife)
  • A legal everyday item like a “meat stick” or an apple to pair with the knife
  • Alternative options, such as a tactical flashlight with a striking bezel, or other handheld object that can be used as an everyday carry “force-multiplier” weapon.

Step-By-Step Instructions:

  1. Go Shopping: The easiest way to arm yourself with the best possible edged-weapon is to select the correct type for the dynamics discussed in your training.

Here are some recommendations to get you started:

  2. Choose Your Weapon: Head straight to your kitchen and select a small paring knife (or similar sharp object) that can be easily carried in a purse, pocket, or bag.

As an alternative to your everyday utensils, you can head to a nearby thrift store or discount shop and find a paring knife or other useful tool (this can be as simple as a knife costing fifty cents). No excuses—grab whatever is within reach that can serve as a defense tool.

  3. Create A Legal Cover: To avoid legal issues when carrying your selected weapon, pair it with a common item like an apple or beef stick that you can claim as your reason for having the knife. This “dual-purpose” mindset can help you avoid trouble if questioned.

  4. Test Your Setup: Once you’ve paired your knife with the food item, practice how quickly you can access it. Can you grab the knife from a purse or bag in a moment’s notice? Think about how you would draw it if ambushed or attacked suddenly.

  5. Consider Non-Lethal Options: If you’re not comfortable with a knife or you’re in a situation where carrying a knife isn’t possible, use a tactical flashlight or other hard object you can carry legally.

Practice the same access drill—how fast can you get to the object and use it for self-defense?

  6. Carry It Daily: Make this a habit: your newly selected weapon should be something you carry with you every single day. It should become as natural as carrying your phone or wallet.

Tips From The Trenches:

Practice Fast Access: It’s not enough to just carry a weapon; you need to be able to reach it quickly. Spend time each day practicing pulling out your chosen tool as fast as possible—both in relaxed situations and under some stress (like setting an alarm to surprise yourself).

Keep It Legal: Always pair your knife with an innocent item, like an apple or beef stick, to help avoid potential legal issues. Know your local laws on carrying weapons!

Stay Aware: Even with a weapon on hand, situational awareness is key. Don’t rely solely on your tool—use your awareness and surroundings to avoid trouble when possible.

Wrapping Up:

Ready Right Now is about one thing—being prepared to defend yourself in an instant. By finding a weapon you can carry daily, and ensuring you have fast access to it, you dramatically increase your chances of surviving a sudden attack. Keep practicing, make this a habit, and always stay alert.
